Brilliant pianist Simon Tedeschi and stellar flautist Jane Rutter perform works by Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Shostakovich & others, including Tchaikovsky’s Mélodie from Souvenir d'un Lieu Cher Op. 42 (which inspired the song These Are the Things I Love), the Love Theme from Romeo & Juliet, Prokofiev’s Visions Fugitives, and selections from his Romeo & Juliet Suite (Dance of the Knights, Dance of the Antilles Girls). This beautiful concert coincides with launch of Simon’s first book Fugitive, a work using Prokofiev’s Visions Fugitives as a thread - that meditates on music, poetry, memory and literature.
“We deplore the war on Ukraine waged by Putin’s Russia. Yet we are pleased to present a program close to our hearts. Russian Music by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff Tchaikovsky is core to the classical musicians’ staple. Art should be able to seperate from politics, and in this instance we have decided to proceed with the repertoire, our hearts heavy as we witness the suffering of inno- cent people. The composers we play were great international artists first, citizens of their countries second. We hope you enjoy this lovely programme, knowing our feel- ings on this important issue.” -Simon Tedeschi and Jane Rutter
Join Jane and the performers for lunch after the concert by purchasing a lunch and concert ticket package, which includes a delicious meal at Tomi’s Kitchen Vietnamese restaurant (located next the the Performing Arts Centre).
