The choral blockbuster O Fortuna is so iconic it has accompanied everything from gripping action sequences to tongue-in-cheek beer advertisements. Experience the raw power of Carl Orff’s music live in the Pat Reilly Concert Hall when Professor Dr Nicholas Milton AM leads the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and Choir in Carmina Burana. Setting words from a medieval manuscript discovered in a German abbey, Orff’s masterwork harnesses driving, primal rhythms and ethereal chant-like vocal lines to bring to life songs of love, nature, drinking and gambling alongside the famous ode to the goddess Fortune and her relentless wheel.

The concert opens with another masterpiece of musical storytelling, Stravinsky’s suite from his colourful ballet The Firebird, composed for the Ballet Russes in Paris. Hear the musicians of the WSO retell this vivid tale from Russian folklore, from the vibrant Dance of the Firebird and the tranquil Round Dance of the Princesses to the terrifying Infernal Dance of Kaschei’s Subjects, in this epic musical event.
