Celebrating 50 Years of Choral Excellence
Founded in 1976, Hwa Sheng Chorus Australia is proud to be Sydney's first formal Chinese community choir. For five decades, our members, drawn from across the Chinese community, have shared a passion for choral music while fostering cultural exchange through the universal language of song.
Over the years, the choir has participated in numerous prestigious concerts and choral festivals throughout Australia and overseas, with performances in Taiwan, Singapore, Beijing, Fujian, and many other cities.
Since 2000, the choir has been under the artistic direction of Conductor Karl Yeung (楊永康), one of Sydney's most respected choral conductors. His dedication, artistic vision, and musical excellence have guided the choir to new heights of achievement.
Join us as we celebrate this remarkable milestone with a spectacular afternoon of music featuring our distinguished guest artists:
- Christian Qi (祈浩田), an acclaimed young baritone and Principal Artist with Opera Australia, will perform two beloved Chinese classics: How Could I Not Miss Her (《教我如何不想她》) and The Great River Flows East (《大江東去》).
- George Yang (楊格), a distinguished cellist who has performed regularly with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan Orchestra since 2003, will appear as our featured guest artist.
- The Music Association of Auckland Choir, founded in 2002, has long supported its whānau and the wider community through music. The choir will present a selection of songs before joining Hwa Sheng Chorus Australia for a special combined performance.
This Golden Anniversary Gala Concert will present an inspiring program of choral masterpieces in multiple languages, spanning both classical and contemporary popular music, such as:
Va, Pensiero - Hebrew Slaves' Chorus (Italian), 愛拚才會贏 (Hokkien), 好歌獻給你 (Cantonese), The Prayer (English), Pokarekare Ana (Maori), etc.
