Embark on a fantastic journey of discovery with Dr Nicholas Milton AM and the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra. Erich Wolfgang Korngold wrote his gorgeous Violin Concerto in 1945, drawing on the exquisite melodies and rousing themes of his music for Hollywood swashbucklers starring Errol Flynn. Korngold’s stunning concerto will be brought to life by one of Germany’s most exceptional violinists, Rosa Donata Milton, Concertmaster of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jena and Lecturer at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar. The wife of the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra’s Chief Conductor, Rosa Donata is renowned for her interpretations of the major violin concertos of the 20th century, from Barber and Bernstein to Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Vasks. This spectacular concert concludes with Berlioz’s brilliant and terrifying Symphonie fantastique, a dramatic musical self-portrait of the artist that begins with a love story and descends into the horror of a witches’ sabbath.

Program:

Korngold: Violin Concerto in D major, op. 35

Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique op. 14
